The Case for Using Probabilistic Knowledge in a Computer Chess Program (John L. Jerz)
Resilience in Man and Machine

I, I can't get these energies into my mind,
And some kind of slackness has started to evolve...

Matthew Bellamy of the Rock group Muse had an earlier career where he worked at the help desk of an Information Technology company.

Matthew did nothing all day, like most IT people, except construct plots to make computer users unhappy and to essentially lock them out of their computers.

Matt would come home from work, pick up his guitar, sit in front of the TV, and basically do nothing.

His girlfriend would complain constantly that he never did anything, never talked to her, and never seemed to care.

One day Matt's girlfriend was complaining to him as usual and he began to strum his guitar using an unusual rhythm, and he quietly sang these words, underneath what she was saying.

They both realized that he had written a new song. Matt sent it off to his producer, who promptly rejected it, saying that no one wanted to hear a song about being lazy.

Matt was later sent a lay-off notice by his company, so he had time to rework the lyrics, and the song became an instant success.

"Slackness"

(Sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla...slaaah...slaaah...slaaah...)

I, I can't get these energies into my mind,
And some kind of slackness has started to evolve.
(sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla...slaaah...slaaah...slaaah...)
I, I tried so hard to stand you know,
But some kind of slackness is swallowing me whole, yeah
(sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla...slaaah...slaaah...slaaah...)

I have finally seen the light,
And I have finally realized,
What you mean.
Ooh oh oh

And now, I need to know is this real love,
Or is it just slackness keeping us afloat?
(sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla...slaaah...slaaah...slaaah...)
And when I look back at all the crazy fights we had,
Like some kind of slackness
Was taking control
(sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla...slaaah...slaaah...slaaah...)
Yeah

And now I have finally seen the light,
And I have finally realized,
What you need.
Mmmm...

(sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla...slaaah...slaaah...slaaah...)

And now I have finally seen the end
(Finally seen the end)
And I'm not expecting you to care
(Expecting you to care)
But I have finally seen the light
(Finally seen the light)
I have finally realized
(Realized)
I need to love
I need to love

Come to me,
Trust in your dream
Come on and rescue me.
Yes I know, I can be wrong
Maybe You're too headstrong
Our love is
(sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla-sla...slaaah...slaaah...slaaah...)
slackness
