back to satire

In his early days, Billy Idol was a computer programmer who often worked late at night writing software for projects that were always late and full of missed deadlines. His early songs had software themes and were not popular.

One of his rejected songs was re-written to become Rebel Yell, but this early version was rejected by his producers, who told him that he should get out more and spend less time writing code.

Rebel Yell (Billy Idol)

Last night a software mana-ger
Came knockin at my door
Last night a software mana-ger
Came dropping off a chore
She said a come baby
I've got a deadline, sort-of..
And if it expires
Pray help from above
Because

In the midnight hour
She cried code, code, code!
With a rebel yell
She cried code, code code!
Owww
In the midnight hour, babe
Code, code, code
With a rebel yell
Code, code, code
Code, code, code

She don't like slavery
She won't sit and beg
But when I'm tired and lonely
She pulls me out of my bed
My time ain't free
It brought you to me, babe
My time ain't free
Don't need you here by me
Because

In the midnight hour
She cried code, code, code!
With a rebel yell
She cried code, code code!
Wowww
In the midnight hour, babe
Code, code, code
With a rebel yell
Code, code, code

Code bugs are un-for-giv-en
Gets it to go cause I'm over driven
Well she's out all night to collect soft-ware
Just so long, just so long it don't mess up her hair
Oww ha

I write the code for you, babe
A thousand lines for you
I dried your tears of pain
A million lines for you
I'd sell my soul for you, babe
For money to burn for you
I'd give you all and have none, babe
Just a, just a, just a, just a
To have your code from me
Because

In the midnight hour
She cried code, code, code!
With a rebel yell
She cried code, code code!
Wowww
In the midnight hour, babe
Code, code, code
With a rebel yell
Code, code, code

Oo yeah, a software mana-ger
She wants code
Code, code, code, code, code
Oo yeah, a software mana-ger
She wants code
Code, code, code, code, code
