 Summary to Appendix

The core functionality to the heuristics of a proposed evaluation function has been described in detail. The future mobility of the chess pieces, properly combined with 1) realistic restrictions that we can anticipate and 2) strategic goals that we can plan can be used to enhance the alpha-beta search process by intelligently focusing the search efforts.

The performance of the proposed heuristic has not yet been determined.

A Note on Diagrams

The chess diagrams for this paper were constructed using the free software program ChessDiagrams. The ".bmp" file was reduced in size to 200x200, then converted to a  .jpg image using Easy Thumbnails software.

A Note on Quotations

This paper contains many quotations. The quotes that I have selected for this paper have a direct impact on the message I am trying to communicate - they are there for an important reason. There are many more secondary quotations that I have placed at the end of the appendix (Additional Quotations) because this paper probably has too many of them already. These secondary quotes add insight and in some cases are a source for further exploration.
